NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR
4.0x SETUP INFORMATION

ASSUMPTIONS

It is assumed that you have connected to Online Colorado, and have installed the full version of Netscape Communicator 4.01 before attempting to perform the setup.

Step 1: Configuring Netscape Messenger

     
  1. Open Netscape Messenger from the Start menu by clicking on StartProgramsNetscape Communicator, Click on Edit then select Preferences,. The following screen will appear as shown in figure 1.

2) Click on "Identity" within the "Mail & Groups", this is used to setup the information to correctly identify yourself in out going Email messages. The only essential details needed in this section are "Your name" and "Email address", as shown in figure 1 above.

3) The Mail server section is used to setup the server from which your mail will be sent to and received from. 

The Mail server username is the same as your Online Colorado User-ID.

The "Mail server type" should be set to POP3. See Figure 2.

  1. For use of Netscape Messenger News reader the "Group server" section must be set to news.onlinecol.com and Port: 119 as per Figure 3.
When using newsgroups, you will be prompted for a user name, and password.  To access most groups, type onlinec (in small case) for the user name, and zippo (again in small case) for the password.  
*note for full access to all groups (which some may find offensive), 
you must be over 18 years old, and call in for an additional password.
 

Step 2. Proxies and Online Colorado .

     
  1.  Proxies must be set to Direct connection to the internet as per figure 4 below.

Once all the above settings are done simply click on OK.
